New Perspectives for the Hottingen Residential District
In Hottingen, a new Dolder Waldhaus is eagerly anticipated following a comprehensive renovation. The closure of the old hotel is long past; the old building from the 1970s is being transformed into a contemporary residential building with public areas. This development opens up new perspectives for the current and future residents of Hottingen.
Until the mid-19th century, Hottingen was a rural suburb of Zurich, characterized by agricultural businesses but also with some elegant country estates. The Römer family and their farm gave their name to the later square.
The increasing urbanization of the community and the resulting population growth soon became too much for Hottingen. Above the long-established, predominantly agricultural population, an urban layer of newcomers settled, for whom Hottingen was no longer a center of life, but merely a place to live while they pursued their professions in the city. Thus, the time was ripe for incorporation into the city. In 1893, Hottingen was incorporated into “Greater Zurich” along with other suburban communities. The small farming village had become a lively, upscale urban district. In the same year, a private tram line was established from Bellevue to Römerhofplatz.
A Living Room above the Rooftops of Zurich
In a prime location between the city and nature, the current renovation project is creating new housing for Zurich’s residents. The range of rental apartments spans from studios to 6.5-room apartments.
Thanks to an extensive network of hiking and running trails right at the doorstep, residents have numerous opportunities for activities in the adjacent forest park. If the weather does not cooperate, residents have exclusive access to a fitness room in the basement.
The Dolder Waldhaus remains well-connected to public transportation through the Dolderbahn station, which continues to stop at the Dolder Waldhaus. Additionally, numerous bicycle shelters and tenant parking spaces in the underground garage ensure further mobility options.
Meeting Point Dolder Waldhaus
The ground floor is planned to include publicly usable spaces such as a restaurant with an outdoor terrace and co-working spaces. This will create a new meeting point in the neighborhood for residents and locals alike. The exceptional location, with breathtaking views over Lake Zurich, invites visitors to linger. Thus, a contemporary place of encounter and an excursion destination for travelers, neighbors, and friends is being created on a historic spot.
